San Diego Korean Parents Association (SDKPA) is a non-profit organization established by volunteer Korean parents in San Diego County. SDKPA organized and supports various events and activities that our children with Korean heritage can benefit from.
Having realized that reading is an important in our children’s learning and education, especially when most of their first languages are Korean, SDKPA initially issued monthly pilot newsletters for our Korean families with book reviews and recommended reading lists in the effort of promoting reading among our students. SDKPA’s responsibilities and roles have evolved over the years and the current form of SDKPA Book Club was officially launched in 2014, and our member base has been growing ever since.
The SDKPA Book Club student membership is two-tiered; students from Book Club as members. From grade 9 to 12, students are given the opportunity to volunteer as leaders if they successfully complete Book Club leader training sessions. Book Club leader prepare monthly meetings with various activities that student members can actively participate in within the provided context of the books they read and discuss.
The SDKPA is very pleased to provide our students with opportunities to nurture their leadership skills and teamwork through collaborative literary discussions. The SDKPA will issue the Certificate of Appreciation to Book Club leaders for their time and effort working with their students.
