Having realized that reading is an important element in our children’s learning and education, especially when most of our children’s first language is Korean, SDKPA initially piloted publishing monthly newsletters for our Korean families with recommended book lists to promote reading among our students. SDKPA’s responsibilities and roles have evolved over the years and the current form of SDKPA Book Club was officially launched in 2014 and our member base is growing ever since.
SDKPA Book Club student membership is two-tiered; students from grade 2 to 8 participate the Book Club as members and grade 9 to 12 high school students who volunteered and successfully completed Book Club leader training sessions will be working with groups of member students. Book Club leaders prepare monthly meetings with various activities that member students can actively participate in within the provided context of the books they are discussing.
SDKPA is very pleased to provide our students with opportunities to nurture their leadership skills and teamwork through collaborative literary discussions. SDKPA will issue the Certificate of Appreciation to Book Club leaders for their time and effort working with member students as a chapter 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
